Small Changes Grant Award To HPMS

Hyde Park Style benches in Logan Square.

We are very pleased to again be the recipient of one of the Small Changes grants. HPMS applied for and will receive $6,000.00 to purchase two more of the "Hyde Park" style benches and flower pots like the ones we installed in Logan Square last year. The benches have proven to be very popular not only for their distinctive design, similar to real furniture, but also for enhancing the sense of public pride of place. The Small Changes grant program was created by Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Parks and Recreation Dept. to fund local beautification projects by qualified non- profits.

Hyde Park Artscene, July 14th

Theatre ▪ Art ▪ Music ▪ Food all outside on a summer evening in Hyde Park starting at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, sounds good doesn't it? Hyde Park Main Streets is pleased to be a founding partner organization in the Hyde Park Arts Initiative which hosts this annual event in Logan Square. Over 800 people attended last year and it is a great opportunity to showcase our arts community in the heart of the business district. Both of our Corporate Buddies, the Hyde Park Cooperative Bank and the Hyde Park Savings Bank are also financial sponsors of the arts festival. For more information visit the web site at: www.hyde parkartsinitiative.org

Main Streets Honors Volunteer & Business Of The Year

David Hanson and family at the Boston Public Library, Copley Square.

And the winner is Brian Clinton, Volunteer of the Year and Murdoch Mailing Co., Inc. as our Business of the Year. Both honorees were present to accept their awards from Mayor Thomas M. Menino at a citywide Boston Main Streets Reception at the Boston Public Library in Copley Sq. last month. The Hyde Park Main Streets Board of Directors nominates the winners based on their contributions and commitment to our Program and the community. Both Brian and David Hanson, owner of Murdoch Mailing Co. were recognized for their leadership skills and creative solutions to advancing the mission of HPMS and benefiting "our small town in the City." Brian serves on the Board of Directors and is a Resident Member. Murdoch Mailing Company is a long standing Business Member who also makes a time saving and cost effective in-kind donation of mailing services to HPMS that frees up volunteer and staff time to dedicate to programming initiatives.

HPMS Annual Meeting and Election of Officers

Brian Clinton and Lisa Consalvo, both HPMS Board Members, celebrate at the the awards ceremony.

The Annual meeting of the HPMS Board of Directors was held at the Hyde Park Library in June. The Board meets regularly once a month and in June re-elects officers to a term of one year. All Board Members serve as volunteers generously donating their time and professional expertise to our Program. Board Members serve staggered three year terms per our by- laws. Brian Clinton was elected President of the Board succeeding our long time and much respected Board President of the past 10 years, Norman Williamson of the Hyde Park Cooperative Bank. Norm's many contributions as President through his leadership and personal commitment to our Program and Hyde Park are the bedrock of our success. The other elected officers are as follows: Vice President, Paul Bunker of the Hyde Park Savings Bank, Vice President Ted Palashis of Overbrook Scientific, Treasurer Rob Nelson of the Hyde Park Cooperative Bank and Clerk Jim Stanton, Esq. of Stanton & Flaherty, LLC. The Board of Directors was also pleased to appoint Scott Batey to the Advisory Board of Directors. Scott is a Hyde Park resident and HPMS Member who is an Assistant Vice President at New England Financial.
