Direct from Our Members...

Patrick Whalen, Greater Boston Constables Office, Inc., told HPMS that a client walked into his office saying that he found the Constable's name off "the website". Not having a website of his own, Patrick realized that his customer had been browsing the Hyde Park Main Streets on- line business directory. Up until that moment, creating a webpage had been a desire but not at the top of Patrick's to-do list. Spurred on by the newly generated business, Patrick signed up immediately for his own web page hosted by HPMS for only $30 a year.

Check out the Constable's new page on the directory link below.

Mayor Menino Hosts Boston Main Streets Tenth Awards Ceremony

The Honorable Thomas M. Menino, Mayor, City of Boston cordially invites you to join him for a special Boston Main Streets 10th anniversary event.

All of our Members are invited to the awards ceremony and reception to honor a Business of the Year and a Volunteer of the Year from each of the 19 neighborhood Main Street programs.

Here in Hyde Park, we are pleased to be honoring Ted Nichols, as our Volunteer of the Year and the River Street Grille as our Business of the Year.

The epitome of steadfast service and support, Ted Nichols has been with HPMS since the beginning of the Program and continues to be an active Board and Business Member. He actively participates in all our fundraisers, from selling raffle tickets to the Super Bowl to providing materials and volunteer time at the events we sponsor. A successful and well known business person in Hyde Park, Mr. Nichols is proud of his Main Street affiliation and has lent his prestige and good reputation to our organization as a model Board Member.

A long time Business Member of HPMS, the River Grille has graciously hosted our monthly Networking Breakfast for a few years now, including having staff present and opening early for the event. They have also participated in many of our initiatives by donating in kind food, from pizzas to the kids painting the HPMS mural to being a partner in Countdown to Kindergarten. Currently they are taking advantage of the Technology on Main Streets initiative by having a web page designed by Tech Boston and hosted by HPMS as part of their latest marketing efforts.

HPMS Joins With Library To Sponsor Job Fair For Local Youth

Click photo for more information about the Hyde Park Branch Library.

The local business community and local teens will have an opportunity to come together for a Teen Job Fair on Saturday, June 10th from 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM at the Hyde Park Branch Library.

Hyde Park Main Streets will be there with a table offering a selection of volunteer projects that teens could also sign up for this summer. Other stations will provide training and assistance for the teens on everything from writing a resume to the proper interview techniques.

Reps from the Private Industry Council, (PIC) and The Education Resources Inst., (TERI) will help staff the Job Fair. TERI, has a center at the Library and helps with planning for college and identifying sources of financial aid.

HPMS will be registering interested businesses who may wish to hire a teen part-time or even for one project. Businesses could also send a rep to the Job Fair, let us know and we’ll send you the simple registration form, or download it directly from our web site, www.hydeparkmainstreets.com

Restoring The Neponset River, Networking Breakfast Topic

1968 Historical photo of flooded Neponset River near Dana Avenue. Click for more information on the Riverways Program.

A river runs through it, did you know the Neponset River runs through the Hyde Park Business District? A healthy river could be an economic opportunity for the area, as a natural attraction for residents and more.

“The Lower Neponset River, winding along Milton and the Boston neighborhoods of Hyde Park, Mattapan and Dorchester is a hidden diamond in the rough. Three hundred years of human ingenuity and development have impacted the river, and now there is opportunity to restore it to ecological health, bringing a natural wonder back to the community. Working with local, state and federal partners, the Riverways Program (Mass. Dept. of Fish and Game) is looking at ways to bring the river back to health and to rejoin it to the community.” Join us and guest speaker Gabrielle Stebbins for a presentation on plans to restore our river.
